I've been a huge X-Men fan since... forever. ;) I grew up with the comics AND the original 90's animation show (The X-Men Animated Series). It was more than a cartoon for me; the characters were so relatable and real, with personal issues I had to grope with everyday, yet being blessed with such great powers and the noble task of wanting to make the world a better place to live in. In brief, the premise was engaging. Even more so when I later read that Stan Lee, the Marvel Tycoon and Ultimate Comics Creator (IMHO), originally intended this series to be a metaphor for racism, which was a big issue in America when the series was first created (1960's).
I took a liking for Rogue, because she's just so sexy and beautiful and strong and she can fly (:P), but she's so insecure about everything and runs away from herself the most. She's the coolest troubled chick I've seen. My liking for her increased when Gambit entered the scene and, to make a rocky whirlwing romance story short, loved her. In the truest way possible. Theirs was a very twisted, often bumpy and far from perfect, but at the same time very tangible, genuine sort of love that both makes you feel warm and fuzzy on the one hand, yet aching with bittersweetness on the other (because the biggest twist in their relationship is that Rogue cannot be touched, and Gambit cannot be caught -- meaning, Rogue's powers momentarily absorb the psyche of the person or mutant she has skin-to-skin contact with, and Gambit is the ultimate playboy thief, charming and cunning and mysterious and devastatingly sexy). ;)
Anyway, since I'm a huge RoMy shipper, I've been following their relationship since I was a kid (about 15 years ago). I tracked down the more recent movements in their romance, and realized that the Xtreme X-men series contained huge developments in their on-again, off-again relationship. More on than off, though, and that quite pleased me. :) Besides, the artwork is just beautiful! If you wish to know more about the series, you may go here.
